What do I need to study the course?

Entry requirements: Grade C or above in any Art related GCSE, or, the submission of a small portfolio to assess technical skill and suitability for the course.

 

What does the course involve?

Assessment are the following:

 

Component 1: Personal investigation – A practical investigation with a 1000-3000 word written study in support of the practical work.

  • No time limit
  • 96 marks
  • 60% of A-level

Non-exam assessment (NEA) set and marked by the centre and moderated by AQA during a visit to the centre.

 

Component 2: Externally set assignment

  • Preparatory period + 15 hours supervised time
  • 96 marks
  • 40% of A-level

Non-exam assessment (NEA) set by AQA, marked by the centre and moderated by AQA during a visit to the centre.

 

Students will be entered for AS at the end of year 12 before progressing onto the full A-level in year 13.

 

What next?

Many of our students’ progress onto either art foundation courses at local collages or art related undergraduate courses. Irrespective of whether students are pursuing a career in the arts we are confident that skills such as creativity and problem solving are highly sought after on many degree courses. As a result, an A-Level in Art, Craft and Design complements other subjects superbly.

BTEC Level 3 National Extended certificate / National Diploma / National Extended Diploma in Art and Design

 

What do I need to study the course?

Entry requirements: Grade C or above in any Art related GCSE, or, the submission of a small portfolio to assess technical skill and suitability for the course.

 

What does the course involve?

The Extended Certificate is equal to 1 A-Level covering 4 units of work from a wide variety with 2 externally assessed units. This course is an introduction to Art and Design at this level and is for learners who may want to  progress to higher education and combine it with other BTEC nationals or A-Levels. The National Diploma is equivalent to 2 A levels, with 8 units of work, 3 of which are externally assessed. The National Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A-Levels with 13 units, 4 of which are externally assessed. These 2 courses are for learners who wish to progress to higher education in visual arts.

The courses cover compulsory units including visual recording, communication,  production of outcomes and optional units including, fashion, photography, textiles, 3D, animation and many others.
