At Bishop Young Academy, we recognise the important connection between a healthy diet and a student’s ability to learn effectively. To reflect this, we have the following aims –
Catering at Bishop Young is provided by Innovate, who prepare, cook and serve from our in-school kitchen.
We have teamed up with Innovate to bring exciting, high street-inspired food experiences, freshly prepared every day with top-quality ingredients. Innovate, part of the award-winning Impact Food Group, is on a mission to create a vibrant food culture in schools, offering the perfect mix of choice, nutrition, and great value. Students can enjoy a variety of ‘grab and go’ options or sit down to a delicious main meal with dessert.
Innovate also serves up their StreetVibes range, with flavourful, globally inspired dishes, and Naturally, a tasty selection of vegetarian and vegan meals, salads, fruit pots, and baked goods. For a snack on the go, PowerBites offers mouth watering treats like pasta pots, nachos, and glazed breadsticks for just £1.30. Students with free meal allowances can enjoy hot dishes with dessert or grab a meal deal with a drink. The Blue Dot value range offers the perfect lunch at a great price, where students can pick from a selection of hot and cold items. Plus, every student gets a FREE bowl of porridge to kickstart their day!

Food is available at the following times:
Bishop Young is a very busy school with very busy break times, and it can be quite daunting to students coming from smaller primary schools. The main difference is the range of choice available. This information will let students know what is available, when and where, so we can provide the best service possible. Most of this information will be given out to new students on transition day. Please be aware that the transition day menu will not be the same as our regular offers.
At Bishop Young we operate a cashless system, so that when money has been paid into your account (either online through ParentPay or by cash using PayPoint). Please ensure your child has enough credit on their card to purchase food each day.
Students are set with a daily spending limit on their card to prevent them spending all their money in one day. This limit is currently £9.99 per day however this can be changed at your request. Please contact the school office if you wish to change your limit.
Parents/carers are requested to speak to their children to ensure they do not overspend on their card. We frequently have students spending too much at morning break, who then do not have enough money to buy a lunch.
If your child receives Free School Meals, they will have £2.55 added to their account daily. This can be used on their choice of food and drink, or they can purchase a meal deal (we will top up the extra 10p needed).
Your child may be entitled to free school meals if you are in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:
Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals
To find out if you are eligible for free school meals and to receive a claim form please contact the school office who can support you with the application process.
