On Thursday 8th February, ten Bishop Young Academy Student Council representatives attended the Inner East Youth Summit at Leeds Civic Hall, where they met with The Leeds City Councillors for Killingbeck & Seacroft and Gipton & Harehills.
At the forum, our students took part in a democracy workshop, discussed issues that are important to young people in the area and asked the Councillors lots of questions about their work. Year 10 students were part of a mock funding committee and demonstrated their impressive oracy skills, debating eloquently and passionately in front of a packed Council Chamber. They also had the unique opportunity to meet with the Lord Mayor of Leeds and hear all about her work.
It was a fascinating visit and the students were fantastic ambassadors for Bishop Young Academy.
